I tested it in 44.1, 48, and 96kHz and only got digital aliasing at 44.1 which is interesting to me. I think it sounds pretty good, but one of those things it's super easy to overdo and lose perspective.Īnd for those saying it is adding saturation I ran it on a 10kHz sine wave and noticed some very minor if not inaudible harmonics being added above and below the sine wave. This adds brightness and air without generating any new harmonic content or distortion, resulting in a more pleasant and natural enhancer compared to a typical exciter."įresh Air might be doing something else under the hood, but that's the basic idea of it. Quieter sounds get brighter while louder sounds remain almost unchanged. In the case of the Dolby A or Fresh Air trick, " the amount of compression on each band is inversely proportional to the volume of the band. You get the air and high boost, but multiband dynamic processing is working to attenuate the sibilance and harshness you don't want. I've unintentionally done sort of the same thing by boosting the highs into an SA-2. So there's definitely some dynamic processing going on besides an EQ boost. Then the Decoder would expand and attenuate the high requencies of the audio, so in the process of returning the audio to it's normal dynamic range and frequency response, the tape hiss would be attenuated as well. The Dolby A Encoder/Decoder would split audio into four bands, boost the highs and compress them before writing to tape. It's apparently mimicking a Dolby A noise reduction modded encoder trick where engineers would disable the lower two bands of a Dolby A encoder to create a sort of vocal exciter. I feel like I’m getting punished for buying their products in some ways haha Also iLok is USB A not USB C so there's yet another inconvenience if I don't have an adapter for my MacBook LOL, it’s just so inconceivably stupid. I hope the companies take their heads out of their asses and realize what an idiotic concept it is. It's absurd and I don't normally say anything about how stupid iLok is but I just don't buy plugins that require iLok if I don't have to. #Slate digital free ilok softwareI still have one but the fact you have to pay more money for a USB stick to use software you already bought and all of this adds zero value to the customer (if anything it takes value away). Can you imagine if you needed a USB dongle to use Microsoft Office hahaha, iLok is an idiotic, archaic protocol. #Slate digital free ilok windowsI think that misses the point though, there's a reason why you don't need a USB dongle to log into Windows because it's an exceptionally stupid way to authenticate legitimate copies of the software.
